I am an assistant professor at Indiana University. (Previously, I was at Georgetown University and, before that, The Ohio State University.) My research, which you can find out more about below, has focused on the detection and correction of annotation errors in corpora.
Information on the CL program at Indiana can be found here.
See also the CL wiki that Nathan Sanders has set up for CL at IU.
Note also that IU is hosting this year's (2009's) Midwest Computational Linguistics Colloquium (MCLC)
I served as co-PI of the DECCA project, Detection of Errors and Correction in Corpus Annotation, as part of NSF grant IIS 0623837
Spring 2009:
Corpus Linguistics (L615)
Autumn 2008:
The Computer and Natural Language (L445/L515)
Seminar: Automatic Analysis of Learner Language for ICALL (L485/L700)
A listing of corpus resources on the web I created with funding from a seed grant from the OSU College of Humanities.
For non-linguistic friends and family, I wrote up a primer on what my first publication was about. You can find that here.
My beautiful wife, Stephanie, is a brilliant statistician over at the Indiana Statistical Consulting Center (ISCC).
My dad, Ron, is the head minister at the First United Methodist Church in O'Fallon, IL; be sure to check out his recent sermons (or old sermons from his Mattoon days) along with some devotionals from my mom, Phyllis, who also does a lot with their church.
My brother, Colby, moved to Belgium a couple summers ago to study European Theology at the Catholic University of Leuven. I once wrote a wacky story about him, even though it's not really about him. Read with caution.
I'm working on a page to highlight the great relationship I have with my brother-in-law Jeff. You can see what I have so far here.
We've been attending a church in Bloomington called Exodus and like it a great deal. Good times.
For the 2 years my wife and I lived in Washington, DC, we attended National City Christian Church, and were actively involved in the young adult group there, YADA. It's pretty cool. ... We also did a few things with the DC area intervarsity group, a great group of grad students.
At Ohio State in Columbus, OH, we were involved with Christian Graduate Student Alliance, and attended Fourth Avenue Christian Church, which I highly recommend.
If you like Seinfeld, I recommend you check out my friend's Club Kramerica at the University of Illinois.
Here is a listing of my 22 favorite works of fiction.
I enjoy long-distance running, as can be seen in these pictures from the OSU linguistics department team, Running Speech.
One of my favorite websites is roadsideamerica.com, and I have to say that my all-time favorite article on there is the one about the so-called White Squirrel Wars.
